When the stove is not in use for a prolonged amount of time, it is important to take a few precautions to protect the stove from moisture and humidity:

• Close the air intakes:
  • Make sure to close all air intakes to avoid humid air getting inside the stove. Most stoves have 1 or 3 air intakes according to the model. Set the air intakes to minimum.
• Clean the stove:
  • You should clean the glass (inside and outside), ashtray, combustion chamber and air dampers and check the gaskets.
• Close the flue damper:
  • If the flue is fitted with a flue damper, make sure to set it to minimum.
• Disconnect the stove from external air intakes:
  • Some Aduro stoves can be fitted with an alternative external air intake. If your connection kit is fitted with a damper, set it to a minimum. Alternatively, disconnect the pipe from the external air intake and move it away from the stove.
• Close the air vent:
  • If the stove is close to an air vent, the moist air could create condensation and rust on the back of the stove. When the stove is not in use for a long time, it is advisable to close the air vent:
    • If the air vent is fitted with a damper, set it to a minimum.
    • Alternatively, put something against the vent to stop the flow of air.

In general, it is important to protect the stove from all kind of moisture or humidity while not in use. Make sure to take the necessary precautions to extend the lifetime of your stove.
